CINDERELLA, Andrew Lloyd Webber
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cinderella is a stage musical loosely based on the classic story of the same name. Thematic elements have been recast concerning appearance and gender relationships which uncover the faulty morals in traditional fairy tales. Costume and sets have been designed by Gabriela Týlešová who we worked closely with to develop numerous textile print designs and graphic elements that would complement her characters.
The relatable, down to earth characters deliver a lot of sass and their style and self-satire have been beautifully portrayed in Gabriela’s lavish and fun designs. Cinderella’s great transformation is not about frocks and frills either.
Overall, the production balances between a refined and grungy feel necessitating ornate elements and layers to achieve cohesion.
Three dimensional effects were achieved by forming and printing textures inspired from Gabriela’s sketches. Using a combination of sourced imagery and original graphic artwork, we were able to add individuality and personality to each character’s costumes and production overall. The most challenging component was the Queens gown requiring engineered placement print and expanding scales to read well.
Initially premiering in 2021 in London’s West End, performances have been on and off but scheduled to resume on Broadway in 2023.
