DARK WAVES, Singapore Ballet

Choreographed by Natalie Weir as part of Singapore Ballet’s Passages triple bill program, Dark Tides plunges audiences into the mythic depths of life and death. Drawing inspiration from Greek mythology, the piece unfolds on a dimly lit stage where dancers embody the restless waters of the River Styx and the souls it carries.

We designed costumes that heighten the haunting atmosphere, with flowing blue fabrics mimicking the river’s currents and stark black ensembles symbolising the finality of death. These designs, paired with Weir’s evocative choreography, bring the themes of love, loss, and mortality vividly to life.

Anchored by a poignant duet between lovers separated by the underworld, Dark Tides captures the timeless struggle to bridge the divide between life and the unknown. It is a powerful meditation on humanity’s shared fragility, expressed through motion, light, and myth.
