FOUR SEASONS, The Australian Ballet School
Four Seasons is a captivating performance created by The Australian Ballet School to celebrate its 60th anniversary. Commissioned by outgoing Director Lisa Pavane, the work is set to Vivaldiās iconic Four Seasons, with each section choreographed by a graduate of the School, representing the legacy of its four directors.
Each season was brought to life through distinct movement styles. Spring, choreographed by Kevin Jackson, presents a vibrant and energetic interpretation of the season, while Summer, by Lucas Jervies, incorporates a contemporary flair with dynamic and fast-paced choreography. Autumn, choreographed by Serena Graham, explores classical ballet with careful groupings and graceful movement, and Winter, by Graeme Murphy, is a standout with its mysterious and evocative imagery, including dancers dressed in silver unitards and a surprising skating moment.
Our contribution to Four Seasons played a key role in bringing the choreography to life, particularly through the costumes. We collaborated with renowned designer Jenny Irwin, working closely to bring her stunning illustrations to life through textile design and print engineering. The costumes were produced by us, including the striking winter costumes that featured all-over foil appliquƩ, which was carefully cad-cut for precision and visual impact.
This performance highlights not only the artistic achievements of the choreographers but also the influence of The Australian Ballet Schoolās directors over the years. The production is a testament to the Schoolās legacy, blending past traditions with future innovations in Australian ballet, with our costumes adding a unique, artistic touch to the overall experience.
